DONK Magazine: Well this is different

How about a little variety sprinkled into my blog? When Photo Director Andrew Link from RIDES Magazine gives me a call, that’s ultimately what I expect. The last time it was for Harley-Davidson, this time it is for 1973 Chevy Caprice from Orangeburg, SC that cranks out 675 horsepower, combined with a 300-shot of nitrous oxide… did I mention the wheels are 28 inches? Like I said, I never know what call I’m going to get next.

Panorama Magazine: Old Flame 914

This month I’m proud to have my work featured in another issue of Panorama Magazine, the official magazine of the Porsche Club of America. I’ll go off on a small tangent and gush about how bold and gorgeous the cover is. Of all the magazines I’ve been published, this cover may take the cake for most daring. No words, small subject, and a blue title atop a blue image are all big risks. If magazines had balls, this automotive issue would have 3..pairs. Panorama is able to push the limits a little more since they aren’t in direct competition with newsstand magazines, which is why I love working with them so much.

Inaugural George Hincapie Gran Fondo

Riding my bike around my town of Greenville I can’t help but hear the name George Hincapie twice on any given day. He is one of the most well known and friendliest figures in cycling; most notable for competing in a record 17 Tours de France, and having the craziest legs in any peloton. So when Hincapie announced an 80-mile Gran Fondo in the mountains of upstate South Carolina, with HUGE cycling names such as Tour de France winner Cadel Evans, Tejay van Garderen, Ted King, Christian Vande Velde, and Dave Zabriskie… I had to get involved. This is the type of event that if I wasn’t behind the camera, I’d be throwing a leg over my Scott CR1.

Dario Franchitti and his Porsche 911 hot rod

Blankly staring at my flickering monitor, eating a PB&J sandwich, while listening to my favorite creative music (Ellie Goulding, Daft Punk, Kid Cudi, Lupe Fiasco), I simply can’t think of a witty fun way to begin this blog article. And it’s driving me crazy! Why is this happening?!? I got plenty of sleep last night, and it’s even raining outside so I’m not (that) tempted to ride my bike. Is it because this article is about Dario Franchitti, one of the most decorated racecar drivers in history?.. A truly humbling genuine man that is so accomplished, yet so modest and friendly, that it’s hard to evoke in words?.. Yea I think it has something to do with it.

Excellence Cover Shoot: Porsche Turbo RSR

This Champion Motorsports Porsche Turbo RSR is going to be hard to beat for the title of best car that I’ve shot. It is arguably the fastest all-around AND most beautifully crafted street-legal car in the world. Beauty is subjective, but being the fastest is objective… and I can attest to the fact that this car is FAST! I like to call myself a speed freak, but even I had to check my manly regions to see if they were still there after a few hot laps in the passenger seat. Riding shotgun with Jared Cullop in a 600hp car that goes 0-60 in 2.6 seconds and corners like it has velcro for tires is a life-changing experience. It’s not all about the power; the suspension, aerodynamics, transmission, and power must all work in unison… and the team at Champion pieced this car together so well Captain Planet would be jealous.

Atlanta to Daytona: Harley-Davidson

What an adventure. Nearly 1000 miles, 2000+ pictures, and 100+ drinks later I checked off one of my more memorable photography assignments. Did I mention I love my job? This is practically part 2 of my previous blog post, but this time I get to follow the guys down to Daytona Beach, FL for Bike Week. This was a big project involving RIDES Magazine and Harley-Davidson. For 3 days and 2 nights we followed around 8 Atlanta Harley-Davidson riders, and documented their experience during Daytona Bike Week. The most nerve-racking thing was piloting a big GMC Acadia SUV through Daytona Beach with literally 1000’s of rough looking bikers… I did NOT want to piss them off. I’m a skinny wanna-be pro cyclist that hasn’t done any (real) prison time, so I’m kind of lacking in the bad-ass department. BIG thanks to Andrew Link, Michael Crenshaw, and the rest of the RIDES Magazine crew for the opportunity.

Atlanta Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Iron Elite

A friend at RIDES Magazine hit me up and asked if I was interested in shooting a Harley-Davidson motorcycle club from Atlanta, GA. Going into the shoot, I had no idea what was going to happen. All I knew is I had to sneak in as many pictures as I could behind the video crew’s back for two days, so RIDES and Harley-Davidson will have plenty of options for their Iron Elite series.

Featured: Excellence Magazine 935

Through a series of fortunate events, I have now climbed to a position of contributing to Excellence magazine, the most widely read independent Porsche magazine in the world. Very excited to say the least. There’s something that makes me tingle when I see my pictures printed in a nice magazine in a well designed layout (thanks John). Let’s also not forget Paul Krasusky who provided the words, very entertaining read… I suddenly have the urge to wear a fancy pinstrip suit with Piloti shoes and Cartier sunglasses.

Team Bahati photoshoot

My alarm goes off at 5:05am in the morning… The streets are clear, the sun is still hours away from peeking through the skyscrapers… “where in the hell am I?” were the first words out of my mouth. Then a few groggy milliseconds later I remembered I had to get up early to do a group shoot for the Bahati Foundation pro cycling team. More specifically the Bahati Foundation is a program that helps inspire youth in inner-city and underserved communities.
