Congratulations, Proterra, you are officially the biggest vehicle I’ve had in front of my camera! I’ve had some pretty wild machines that climb mountains with fury, sophisticated yet rugged vans, priceless pieces of metal, and winner’s circle racers… but this one takes the cake for sheer size. Oh wait, this huge bus gets 600 miles per charge?!?.. which translates to 350 miles of continuous real world bus driving transporting actual people?!?.. which basically means city streets are about to be humming with these clean and quiet machines.
When it comes to progressing the world to a more efficient future, I’m all for electric vehicles. Which is why I was so stoked to shoot for Proterra, a business pushing the boundaries of clean energy. It comes as no surprise that their East Coast operations office is in Greenville, SC (where I reside). When they were doing their range tests recently at the local Michelin Proving Grounds, I had the opportunity to take some brochure-quality images after the dust had settled. Spirits were high after hitting 603 miles, and so were mine when the morning sun burst over such a beautiful location.

Props to Durango for the assisting skills. Always humbling to have another talented photographer help out… but hey we had it easy, we were able to transport all our equipment around in the very bus we shot!
After one minute browsing my portfolio anyone can clearly see I’m a car guy. Pavement ripping horsepower, the smell of a burnout, the sound of an F1 car at 20,000 RPM, the feeling of G-forces, LOVE IT ALL!!! So surely I must be a snob when it comes to the new age of electric vehicles?!? NOPE! With Tesla ripping 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds with 4 doors, gorgeous 17″ touchscreen controls, all while weighing 5,000lbs, I for one welcome our new silent electrochemical overlords!
